Dear Friends of Don Mills Tennis Club,
We’re looking forward to bringing you a wonderful season of tennis again in 2021! Despite Covid restrictions, we have started planning work to ensure everything is in place so we can have a smooth club opening.
We expect that given the current situation, which frustratingly trends positively then negatively, then positively, that we should be able to open and operate as usual. There will still be COVID-19 protocols in place, like hand sanitizing, no walk-ons, masks entering and exiting the courts,etc. but I am assured by the City that unlike last year, Doubles will be allowed since we are considered an outdoor sport with the ability to socially distance safely enough. With more people getting vaccinated, we should be in a better space, and at a minimum, we should be able to get on the courts, dependent on the City colour code restrictions.
Regarding teams and Intercounty Leagues, there isn’t any definition yet, we will update you when we know more. So far, we have put in our intention to field teams in the Mixed Doubles, Ladies and 55+ categories. Junior teams might not make the cutoff dates. And team play will likely just focus on the tennis, no pre or post socializing.
If we get the green light in April, the bubble will come down and we’ll aim to open on Saturday, May 1 st so mark your calendars. Of course, this might be too optimistic, so stay tuned to our website updates or news e-blasts as we might have to adjust to the City’s conditions.
Due to the successful implementation of our online booking system Court Reserve last year, we are bringing it back. We will modify court availabilities to suit the greater member need.
REGISTRATION IS OPEN!
Our 2021 fees were discussed and are being raised slightly. Adult and Seniors fee is going up from $110 to $130. Junior fees stay the same. Your Board has worked hard managing the funds while offering all possible kinds of programming, team support and services. Members can still take advantage of the Early Bird special of $120 if paid before April 25, 2021. We’re one of the few clubs still offering their members an Early Bird special for their loyalty. We are still one of the cheapest clubs around, and we hope you recognize the good value that Don Mills’ membership represents. Where else can you get free balls, online booking, 6 fantastic new courts, programs and gourmet socials? [when permitted under non-Covid times]
Should the season be seriously disrupted or delayed, we will pro-rate a partial refund.
Juniors Programs– Bring the little ones out to try their skills, see if they like a new sport.The Junior Program, as usual, offers Progressive Junior Tennis Development programs. We will have Junior House League later in the summer, weekday Junior Priority Hours of 4-6 pm, Jr ICTA teams for competitive match play [if feasible], and summer camp. April 21/22/23 [wed/thur/fri] – we will likely be doing the Grounds clean up, putting up nets and windscreens. All masked volunteers welcome.
Our Adult House League will continue on Wednesday evenings. Previous participants all report good things on the camaraderie and well-matched level of players. If you’re looking for friendly competition in a fun atmosphere, please join us Wednesday evenings. 3.0 level and above. You must register to show your interest and a not-super-serious tryout date will be communicated around mid-May. For more info and registration details click here
If you’re looking for more serious interclub competition, our Intercounty Evening Teams’ Tryouts will take place Sat, April 24th, 10am-2 pm, First Assessment. Rain date, Sun Apr 25. We will field 3 Intercounty Evening teams: A, B, and C. Our Daytime Teams’ Tryouts will take place outdoors the week of April 26- May 1. All dates are subject to City conditions. Our ever popular Kaffeeklatsch drop-in program will try to continue on Tuesday and Friday mornings (conditions permitting and sans the coffee). As will our Friday Evening Round Robins.
CONTINUING this year is our popular LiveBall clinics. Just $10! Wednesdays and Fridays 7-8 pm. Contact coach Pavel. Come and test your strokes, cardio, volleys, smashes, or mis-hits . It’s all in fun.
We continue to offer secure payments by debit e-transfer! It’s easy, fast and secure. All directions are on the website at the Registration page. You may still select to pay by cheque, using regular mail.
For those unfamiliar, DMTC offers six courts in a park setting, an air-conditioned clubhouse, WIFI, free balls during court monitored hours, lively Round Robin Socials (when permitted) and 3 skilled Pros to take you to the next level.
