Hello Don Mills members:

We’re mid-way through the tennis season and hope everyone is enjoying themselves.

The Singles Tournament is humming along; we hope you’re managing to play your matches since the beginning of June and making new friends along the way.

We got healthy entries of teams for the Don Mills Mens Doubles Club Championship Tournament July 28-30.

So this weekend, starting Friday 6-9 pm, come and watch courtside and cheer for your friends or nemeses. Our tournament director Nigel McClean is busy setting the draw and schedule. Now pray that the rain gods take a vacation -somewhere else, not Ontario. We have 9-10 teams, which should be some good, competitive fun. (A ladies’ tournament was offered, but sadly there were not enough registrants to create a tournament– next year).

A Reminder: there will be no August Civic Holiday social on August 7th. We just did a Canada Day one, a Wimbledon one, and most of us will be volunteering at the NBO the Civic Holiday week. So enjoy world-class tennis in your own city backyard at the National Bank Centre. Support our homegrown players and Tennis Canada. It’s very easy to get to the NBO with the TTC and there are still discounts with volunteer codes available.

The Socials Committee will see you back for Labour Day Social.

Other small reminders:

  • Please pick up your garbage at courtside – can tops, grip wraps, energy bar wrappers
  • There is a Lost N Found box inside the clubhouse [behind the grey desk] – please check it as so many of you leave your towels, jackets, water bottles, shoes, and even your playing racquets we don’t know why …

KK [KaffeKlatsch] program is booming – every Tuesday and Friday morning, many drop in to enjoy drop-in easy-going tennis, have a coffee and yak, and smiles. Thank you to the KK volunteers. You are appreciated.

Our numerous teams are doing well in their divisions, although rain and smoke days this year have not been kind to the captains organizing the teams. It is quite painful having to rejig 12 -24 people again to play, like herding cats … then it rains again on that re-jigged day, to carve court time again for matches, only for it to rain again 30 minutes into the match.

Thank you to all our brave and patient DMTC captains; players, give your captains a pat on the back for all their work and extra work. Thank you to the members who are sometimes affected for cooperating when I plead for a court to let a match conclude.

Have a continued safe and healthy competitive tennis season.
