Dear Friends of Don Mills Tennis Club,

Hope your winter is going well with these frigid temps, with some or a good amount of indoor tennis.

We’re looking forward to bringing you a wonderful season of tennis in 2025! We have started work to ensure everything is in place so we can have a smooth club opening. This year, since Easter is late (April 21st) we won’t get the club from NYTA till late, so expect a May 1 start date. Coaches are starting to take lesson registrations for kids and adults now already, so check their offerings.

REGISTRATION WILL OPEN on Feb 1, 2025! Returning DMTC members get a five-weeks preferential treatment, so don’t delay in registering.Despite crazy inflation everywhere, the Board has decided to keep the 2025 member fees at $150, while continuing to offer the various programming, teams support and services. This year and last year, there was no rate hike, so members are benefitting from 2023’s rates. Junior fees remain the same and have held static for many years now in order to support our mission of promoting tennis to children.

Adult and Seniors fees = $150
Junior fee is $50 first child, subsequent child at $40.
Returning members only can take advantage of the Early Bird special of $130 if paid before March 9th, 2025. See Table below.

After the returning-member-preferred-period, please note the pricing changes and that registration has to open up to the general public and waitlists as we are a North York (Toronto) mandated facility. So, don’t delay your registration if you’d like a spot at Don Mills, especially at the discounted rate. If the maximum registration limits are reached, people will have to go on a waitlist, former member or not.

The Board believes in keeping costs down for the members while promoting good tennis, providing value for the membership, keeping expenses down as evidenced by the financials, and in being a well-run community club supported by volunteerism. As President, I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to recognize all the volunteers on the executive Board who work through the winter and the tennis season on your behalf, as well as the hundred or so very reliable volunteers who help the club during the season. Volunteerism is key to any community club, as is getting along and being resourceful. If you find that your life changes permit a more active volunteer role with Don Mills Tennis, please let us know how we can get you more involved.

The bubble will come down around April 21st and NYTA needs some time and good weather to pack out. Should all go smoothly, we are aiming to open by Thursday, May 1, 2025, so mark your calendars. Of course, this might be too optimistic, so stay tuned to our website updates or news e-blasts as we might have to adjust to conditions. Coaches are aiming to start lessons for the kids the week of April 28th if the weather is fine.

Due to popular demand, we will continue to use our online booking system Court Reserve despite rising costs there too. We will modify court availabilities to suit the greater member need. We will also be surveying the membership on reverting back to our tag-board system with friendlier, community, pick-up tennis. For info, the tag-board system has served us well for more than 55 years and Court Reserve was only introduced for data tracking during the Covid years. More to come on this.

Regarding teams and Intercounty Leagues, we look forward to a full season of 14 weeks play. So far, we have put in our intention to field teams in the Mixed Doubles, 55+, Ladies and Junior League categories. The NYTA Ladies A1 team will retire, fielding only 1 NYTA Monday morning Ladies team that will be decided upon by tryouts in April. Please note, all team tryouts, process and dates will be posted by mid February. This year, since DMTC won last year’s division and tournament championship in the 55+ category, we will have a 55+A team, as well as 55+B team. Spread the word that viable 55+ A players are needed at Don Mills. Fyi 55+ teams play Thursday mornings … so, if you’re good enough, aim to retire before May 2025 and join the Thursday morning A or B teams! You do have to be 55 years old or more in order to play. No 30 y.o allowed. Detailed questions can be directed to Nigel McClean, [email protected]

April 24/25/26/27 [Thurs-Sun] – we will likely be doing the Grounds clean up, putting up nets and windscreens. Inside, we’ll be cleaning out the clubhouse. All volunteers are welcome, so mark off the dates. Remember, we’re a community club made up of volunteers, not a for-profit academy, so please try to engage in one of the very many volunteer opportunities available during the season. Contribute some goodwill.

Juniors Programs – Bring the little ones out to try their skills, see if they like a new sport.

The Junior Program, as usual, offers Progressive Junior Tennis Development programs. We will have ICTA Jr teams for competitive match play, and summer camp.

Our ever popular Kaffeeklatsch drop-in program will continue on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Volunteers to help with the KK program are always needed, thank you.

We continue to offer secure payments by debit e-transfer! It’s easy, fast and secure. All directions are on the website at the Registration page. You may still elect to pay by cheque, using regular mail. No Cash payments will be accepted.

For those unfamiliar, DMTC offers six courts in a park setting, an air-conditioned clubhouse, WIFI, free balls during programs, lively Round Robin Socials, great Teams and skilled Pros to take you to the next level.

Please register early to allow us time to approve your online booking IDs into Court Reserve. For returning members, simply visit www.donmillstennisclub.comSign In, then navigate to Renew Membership in the Members Area and process your 2025 membership.

Looking forward to a fun packed 2025 season!
